Mary Hopkinson is a Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) and a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN), Mary studied at De Montfort University in Leicester. Between 2011-2018 Mary gained significant experience in the NHS working with children and young people with complex needs including neuro disability (brain injury and learning disability), cerebral palsy, hereditary and congenital conditions and complex respiratory including long term ventilation and tracheostomy. Mary also worked within the NHS as a Specialist Continuing Care nurse and was responsible for assessing and identifying the health and wellbeing needs of children and young people, obtaining funding to support these needs and liaising with the client and their family on how the funding would be used to meet these needs. Mary led the team on providing the funding as a personal health budget, which offered the client more choice and control over their care package. Mary has gained a vast amount of knowledge around recruiting and employing support workers and agencies, identifying training needs and sourcing relevant training, and liaising with a variety of different professionals whilst ensuring the child or young person remains at the centre of the care. Mary is also aware of the adult assessments and has supported several adult clients to hold a personal health budget to support and meet their identified needs. Mary is a strong advocate for clients and families and is passionate about empowering them to have choice and control over their lives to enable them to achieve their full potential and have access to the support they require. Mary is proficient at Multi-Disciplinary working and recognises the value of having private and statutory professionals and agencies working in partnership for the client. Mary joined Brownbill Associates Ltd in 2018 and brought a wealth of experience to case management. Mary is a strong communicator who is open and honest with clients, their families and representatives and support her clients in a person-centred way. Alongside her role at Brownbill Associates, Mary also works for the NHS as a community learning disability nurse supporting adults who have a learning disability who need help to manage their mental and physical health needs.
